Cleanance Comedomed Peeling Intensive Spot Breakout Cream is Avène's targeted cream for acne-prone, sensitive skin going through persistent breakouts. Applied as an overnight resurfacing care over the whole face, or dabbed onto individual spots during the day, it visibly reduces the volume and redness of spots, smooths skin texture and helps residual marks fade. It is for teenagers from 12 years and adults, comes in a 40ml tube and is made in France.

A trio of dermatological actives

The formula combines a patented duo — 7% Comedoclastin™, a milk thistle active from Pierre Fabre Research, and 0.1% retinaldehyde (retinal), the form of vitamin A the brand rates as most effective — with 6% glycolic acid. According to the manufacturer, the duo is 50% more effective than retinaldehyde alone (ex-vivo test on the actives). Glycolic acid exfoliates for a smoother, fresh-skin effect, and soothing Avène Thermal Spring Water completes the formula. The cream absorbs quickly with a non-greasy finish. It has no added fragrance; the strong odour from the Comedoclastin™ extraction fades after application.

Precautions: avoid contact with the eyes. Limit sun exposure during use or apply sun protection. Use for a maximum of 15 days, then pause for about one month. If the skin feels uncomfortable, apply every other day. Contains retinaldehyde and glycolic acid — if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a doctor or pharmacist before use.

• Cleanse the skin first with a Cleanance cleanser and let it dry.
