Aquaphor Repairing Ointment is Eucerin's water-free, multi-purpose ointment for dry to very dry, cracked, chapped and irritated skin. It forms a gentle, semi-occlusive protective layer that still lets water vapour and oxygen pass, so the skin can "breathe" while its own barrier is supported, and rough, cracked areas feel soothed, protected and soft again. The transparent ointment is easy to apply to problem areas such as knees and elbows, cracked knuckles and cuticles, and rough heels. With only a few ingredients and free of fragrance and preservatives, it is well tolerated by sensitive skin and suitable for the whole family, including babies and children, on the face and body. The 45ml tube fits easily in a bag.

A minimal, water-free formula

Mineral oil, microcrystalline wax and ceresin create the protective, breathable layer, and lanolin alcohol (Eucerit®) helps the skin hold on to its moisture. Glycerin attracts water and keeps it in the skin, while panthenol (provitamin B5) moisturises and supports the skin's natural renewal, and bisabolol soothes. The rich ointment warms up on the skin and spreads easily, so a thin layer is enough.

• Apply to dry, cracked areas as often as needed and massage in gently; the ointment spreads easily once warmed on the skin.
• A small, fingertip-sized amount is usually enough for both hands; use a little more on the feet and heels.
• For very dry hands and cuticles, apply after each hand wash and again overnight, ideally under cotton gloves.
• Apply thinly and sparingly, as the rich texture goes a long way.
• Do not apply to open, bleeding or weeping skin.
